Built on the site of his original home, the restored house serves as a cultural landmark for music enthusiasts, while preserving the charm of traditional Bahraini heritage houses. Inside, visitors can explore personal photographs of Bin Faris, his records, writings about his work, and a collection of traditional musical instruments.
What to Expect
A Pioneer of Bahraini Folk Music
Born in Muharraq in 1895, Mohammed Bin Faris grew up in a family deeply passionate about music. His musical journey began under the guidance of his brother, Abdullatif Bin Faris. In 1913, he met Abdul Rahim Asiri, a Hijazi artist, who taught him oud techniques. Building on this foundation, Bin Faris began to reinterpret traditional melodies and compose new ones, eventually founding a music school that attracted students from across the Gulf. He recorded albums in Baghdad and Aleppo, with his first songs released in 1933. His music became popular in homes and cafés, earning him the title of master of folk music on Bahrain Radio. He passed away in 1947.
Bin Faris House: A Memorial and Exhibition
Today, Mohammed Bin Faris House is a tribute to his legacy and a celebration of his influence on Bahraini and Gulf music. . Next to the house is the Mohammed Bin Faris Hall, where the Mohammed Bin Faris Folk Band regularly hosts free musical evenings.
This heritage house is part of the Shaikh Ebrahim Bin Mohammed Al Khalifa Center’s initiative, which restored the building to preserve its traditional character while transforming it into a modern cultural hub that promotes Bahrain's rich cultural heritage.
