The Lure of Bahrain's Natural Pearls

The Lure of Bahrain's Natural Pearls

Welcome to Bahrain, known as the "Pearl of the Gulf"! This beautiful island is famous for its rich history in pearl diving, producing some of the world's finest natural pearls. The clear, blue waters around Bahrain are not just stunning; they’re home to these precious gems. In the past, local divers would spend months at sea, diving deep with just a wooden nose peg to find pearls.

Bahrain has been a centre for pearl trading for over 2,000 years. Traders from all over the world came here to get their hands on these rare pearls. In the early 1900s, Bahrain was a big player in the global pearl market. Even Jacques Cartier, the famous jeweller, visited in 1912 to buy Bahraini pearls for his luxury brand. His visit helped put Bahraini pearls on the map, making them even more sought after.
